the lows of high-rise living
My upstairs neighbours are the most uncivilised lot of people I've ever met. I've only seen some of them, but as far as I can make out, there's a cantankerous old woman, three or four of the most ill-behaved children on the planet, and a couple in their 30s, whom I presume are the old woman's children and parents of said kids.

Good lord. All they do the whole day is talk to each other at the top of their voices and slam things. The old woman, all she does is nag at everyone else in an incredibly loud voice. Sometimes, I hear them arguing in the wee hours of the morning, like at 4am. They don't seem to place much value on personal hygiene. The kids are dressed in wrinkly, un-ironed clothes. I once saw one of them running around in public without any pants. Like, with his pee-pee showing. WTF.

The kids. OMG, the horror. I live on the 18th floor and they're just above me. The kids throw all manner of objects out of their window, including their food. Once, rice landed on my window sills. Often, there would be streaks of dried-up liquids on the windows. And yesterday, they threw water bombs! Bloody hell. Because it was such a sunny day, almost everyone had their laundry hung out to dry. The pests must have been rubbing their hands with glee.

Once, when my mum was over at my place, she went up to scold them because water from their wet clothes were dripping on our laundry. The old woman basically said too fricking bad. And her presumed daughter also said something to the effect of c'est la vie (in a much less elegant way, of course) and that if we didn't like it, we can jolly well move to a house. Yeah, I can see where the kids' lack of social graces came from.

I don't see any way out of this except to grin and bear it. A couple of days after my mum confronted them, they happily washed their windows with soapy water that splashed into my flat. So I suspect that any complaint against them will be met with more heinous deeds. I've thought of pasting a note at the notice board downstairs, but I'll probably be arrested for vandalism. Ugh. I hatehateHATE the inconsiderate SOBs.

My boss phoned and reminded me today to mail in my appraisal form. I've been really tardy in doing it, partly because I don't want to be reminded of work. I go back to work in less than a month. As someone who never wanted children, I can't believe I'm saying this but I will be seriously torn up "leaving" Tyler and going back to work. I still don't like children in general (see: above), but with your own, it's just different.

Anyhoos, here's a photo of my bb, age 2 months and 3 weeks.

:squishes your son: OMGSOCUTE.

As for the neighbors, is there a landlord or other building authority you could complain to?

Eeeee!

The thing is, I live in public housing, so there really isn't a landlord I can complain to. Maybe I'll try the residents' committee.

he's adorable!

now that I think of it it's like my house is surrounded by loud neighbors. there's one across the street that throws flowerpots all the time, one in back of us that screams in greek, and our next door neighbor, before she moved out, liked to cut ceramic tiles in her garage at 3 am.

OMG YOUR SON IS SO CUTE WTF. I swear even that photo smells of baby. Eeee.

Re: neighbors from hell -- is there not a way to er, "report" them in a tennant's meeting or whatever? My neighbors downstairs used to have orgies parties every fucking weekend until 5am and their teenage son would start rocking out Linkin Park (kfkjdfkhg!) at 6:30am every single day. We called them, visited them, etc. And nothing. We reported them in a tenant's meeting and they calmed down. Then they started up again and I personally called the police. After the visit from the cops they no longer pester us.

Ask other neighbors, probably there are other people pissed off with them as well. If there's some of you, I think it's possible that they get a citation from municipal authorities for being a bucnch of wankers and not knowing how to live in community (at least that works here!). Good luck!

I live in public housing, so we don't have landlords or tenant meetings. The problem is, they're more of an annoyance than a nuisance. I mean, I'd rather have your neighbours so that I can call the cops on them, but my problems sound a little trvial to involve law enforcement. But it's a good idea to ask around other neighbours and then we can bring it up to the residents' committee.

Oh well. Whatever the case may be, I hope you can solve it sooner than later, because living like that can become quite stressful. :/

^_^ I'm sure he'll be less irritating since you know how irritating irritating kids are like. Did that sound confusing?

ps. Do you mind if I add you on MSN?

It's like we're all destined to be afflicted with asshole neighbours. I wonder if complaining to the town council will do any good.

he is sooooo adorable! i'm happy for you. :D i'm sorry you have such assholian neighbours, argghhhh. we have intolerable neighbours in my old house too (they're still there). :( their stupid dobermans used to keep digging under the fence and shitting all over our garden, and when we complained, the son (who's grownup and is a living bum) told my dad to "fuck off", in those words. :S

Sorry I didn't comment earlier, but gosh, Tyler is so incredibly cute. I hate babies and kids too, but this one really looks adorable.

Inconsiderate neighbours - okay, maybe I can tolerate. It's when they get vindictive that I feel they have crossed the limit. All the best with dealing with this situation.

Oooh thanks. Comments about my baby being cute, etc carry a lot more weight coming from baby-haters. Coz, you know, people who love kids will go "so cute!" at any ugly-ass baby. :)
